i think there is an inverse relationship between the enthusiasm of the hug with the dependence of the child.
the younger the child, the greater the dependence on the parent, hence the bigger the hug.
not only between siblings but within the same sibling as well. case in point being that my daughter used to hug me tight when she was in pre-school. now? i'll be lucky to get a hand-shake.
